SPECIAL SUMMERTIME ALERT! WE HAVE YANKEES TICKETS!
It's that time again... we've got CHEAP tickets for a number of baseball games this summer, available for purchase in person only and first-come, first-served from our hostel shop. Catch a game during your visit and experience the final season of the original Yankee Stadium in the Bronx! Games usually start at 7:05pm, and we leave from the hostel around pm. Tickets are $5-11 and the schedule is as follows:

Daytime Walking Tours
Our daily walking tours give you the opportunity to see the city through the eyes of a local and learn about NYC's rich history and culture. Perfect for those who want to see something off the beaten track after seeing all the major attractions!
What you need to do for all tours...
- Sign up at the information desk in the lobby: please note that tours will be cancelled if there are not at least 4 people signed up and ready to go on the tour.
- Bring Metrocard for the subway (all-day $7 subway metrocards and $24 weekly subway metrocards are available in the Hostel Shop).
- Meet in the lobby at the start time for all tours.
- Note any other special instructions on the sign up sheet in the lobby at the information desk.
Monday
Twilight Time in Brooklyn (10:30am, 3 hrs, FREE) Every other Monday
Enjoy the city sights by day and city lights at night! Walk along the Brooklyn Promenade, see Brooklyn's beautiful brownstones, check out the best views of the Manhattan skyline and NYC's historic bridges with the option of traversing the Brooklyn Bridge. Drink Brooklyn's famous hot chocolate and grab a slice of pizza too!
Central Park (10:30am, 4 hrs, FREE) Every other Monday
Stroll along Central Park’s gardens, vistas, waterways, sculptures, and walkways—a zoo and a castle, too! The tour stops for lunch to enjoy NYC’s outdoor jewel.
Tuesday
Greenwich Village: Punk Rock and Politics, Hippies and Hipsters (10am, 3-4 hrs, $10)
The heart of NYC's counter-culture, the Village is home to bohemians, punks, gays & hipsters. Visit the famous Washington Square Park & nightclubs where legends like Jimi Hendrix & the Ramones got their start. Great nightlife spots & souvenir shopping!
Jerry's City Tour (11am, 12 hours, $10)
All-day all-you can see in NYC marathon tour with the hostel's veteran award-winning guide, Jerry. For those who can't make it to his Saturday Grand Tour - you're in luck!
Wednesday
Historic Harlem (10:00am, 3 hrs, $10)
Harlem has a rich history and is in a period of renewal and revitalization right now. Visit the home of Alexander Hamilton, General Washington's NY headquarters, the neighborhood of jazz great Duke Ellington and the site of Malcolm X's assassination.
Sunset on the Staten Island Ferry (time TBD, 3.5 hrs, FREE)
Take a scenic ferry ride to see NY’s most famous lady at sunset. On the way back, make a stop and see the lights and sights by night at Times Square.
Thursday
Empire State Building/Top of the Rock (Time TBD, FREE with discounted ESB or TotR ticket, available at the hostel shop)
Set out at Columbus Circle for a short walking tour of midtown, then go up to the top of the Empire State Building for the best view in the city! The famous ESB is a National Historic Landmark & soars more than a quarter-mile into the atmosphere. And/or go up to the observation deck on the 70th story of the Rockefeller building for a 360-degree, unobstructed view of NYC. On hold until June... but buy your discount ticket at the hostel and go on your own!
Friday
Da Bronx (10:00am, 3 hrs, $10)
Take a trip to Yankee Stadium, the home of NYC's beloved baseball team, then go through Grand Concourse and get a taste of the Bronx's thriving Puerto Rican community.
Saturday
Jerry's Grand Tour (10am, 16 hrs, $10)
The ultimate New York experience: a 16-hour all-you-can-see-in-NYC marathon tour! Start at the Brooklyn Bridge, visiting the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, Chinatown, Little Italy, Central Park, Times Square and more. (You can leave/join the tour at any point in the day!) Everyone's favorite!
Sunday
Harlem Gospel Sunday (8:30am, 4 hrs, $10)
Take a tour Columbia University and St. John the Divine, followed by a visit to LaGree Baptist Church in the heart of 125th Street for a Sunday-morning gospel service.

Evening Activities, Events and Excursions
Only HI New York brings the city to you every evening with fun activities that give you the chance to meet other travelers and check out a bit of local culture. Special things are always going on in addition to these regular events, so be sure to stop by the Information Desk to see what's happening during your visit...

The Inside Joke: Hostel Comedy Night (8:30pm, Theater, FREE)
Laugh the evening away to the entertainment of 5 hilarious New York City standup comedians performing every Wednesday at HI-NY.
Tuesday
Game On! (6pm, World Room, FREE)
Get competitive at Jenga, Scrabble, FREE pool and yes, even Twister for the truly hardcore. Or challenge someone to a virtual tennis or ping-pong match on our Nintendo Wii. Winners receive prizes, including gift cards to local bars and restaurants!
PUB CRAWL (9pm, FREE) 21 and over!
Your hosts Matt, Siris, and Tim takes a group out on the to check out the neighborhood nightlife scene. Cheap drink specials for HI Hostellers!

Spend the Evening In with FRIENDS, SEX in the CITY, Seinfeld and other favorite NYC Sitcoms (7pm, Theater, FREE)
Chill out and catch back-to-back epsiodes of everyone's favorite New York TV shows on our big screen.
Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater (meet at 6:30pm, showtime at 7:30pm, $10)
Before there was American Idol, there was Amateur Night! The audience decides who stays and who goes at this interactive talent show in Harlem's legendary theater. More info at www.apollo.org.
Thursday
Coffeehouse Guitar Jam with David Ippolito, a.k.a. "That Guitar Man from Central Park" (8-10pm in the Community Room, FREE)
Rock out to your favorite songs with one of NYC's cultural icons. Requests welcome!
TRAVEL MOVIE NIGHT (9pm in the Theater, FREE)

DIRTY LAUNDRY: Loads of Prose and Music (9pm in the Laundry Room, May 29th, June 26th, FREE)
Doing your laundry when you're traveling can be a drag, but not when you have people to entertain you and you can wash your clothes for FREE! These live music and reading events bring NYC artists to laundromats all over the city to perform, and once a month they make a special stop at the hostel. Not to be missed...only in NEW YORK!

Turntables and Travel Tips (6-9pm, FREE)
Come chill in the lobby and find out what's going on, where to go, and what to do during your time in NYC. Or if you've been here a few days, bring your tips and exchange notes with other travelers. Guest DJ's weekly!
Stand-Up Comedy at The Underground Lounge (8:45pm, $10 with two-drink minimum) 21 and over!

Webster Hall has been an entertainment venue and gathering place for the people of New York City since 1886. Artists like The Killers, Linkin Park, and Wyclef frequently play there, and WH is open as a nightclub every weekend with the most talented DJ's and freshest electronic artists on the planet. Each of Webster Hall's six dancefloors has its own unique character and blend of NYC's hottest sounds.
